OK So Courtney comes to Mamas and hangs out for a while with me and Kristen.

She gets on my case because I'm going HOME to Brions after Kristen leaves. Courtney is planning on staying the night here. She wants me to stay here. Actually she told me I was GOING to stay here. Fastest way to tick me off.

Hey, I invited her to stay at Brions. She's done it before.

So I told her no.

And she got mad at me.

sorry. I don't live here anymore and quite frankly I don't care what you want. I want to sleep next to Brion.

what do we think about Scientology coming to Plant City?

Wow. Who picked that location? 2 blocks from First Baptist, 3 blocks from First Methodist. In PLANT CITY, the town the Southern Baptists built. Wow.

I can't wait to see what happens. I don't think it'll close (there are some new folks in town) but I don't think it'll be Clearwater-popular.

I heard the guy that sold the building to them (the one who everybody loved for rehabbing downtown) is now not being spoken to on the street. His new name is turncoat.

hehe. This is gonna be great.

Sometimes I feel really really old. Like I've been around the block a few too many times. The Honors classes do that to me.

I'm in this class. It's an Honors class full of freshman and sophomores (and I think all supported at least partially by their parents). They are so idealistic and naive!

Question: Would you take a job, as a pacifist nucleur engineer, working on nucleur weaponry?
Answer (from cute little girl in the front corner): No! You shouldn't have to compromise your morals just for a job.

I must have had a look like I was in major pain because Mr. Professor looks at me and asks my opinion.

Answer (from cynical girl in the back): That's all well and good to say but when it comes down to it, you'll do what you gotta do, especially if someone else is depending on you. If you haven't eaten in a week and you're living in your car, you'll take any job with a paycheck, be it cleaning floors or building H-bombs.

The rest of the class was shocked.

And my partner for our team assignment (it sucks btw) is a privileged, wealthy, white boy from Dunedin who is possibly the most POMPOUS person I've ever met. His family installed cameras in his backyard to watch the workers that are rebuilding their seawall (btw, do you know how much money that property costs???). He showed me how he can access it on the internet and he didn't see anybody working. It's about 1 so I suggested they might be at lunch. "Lunch?! I'm not paying them to eat!" And he was serious. I literally had to bite my tongue before I lit into him. I do need his help with this project so I have to play nice.

Have I always been this way? I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just wondering when it started.

Last semester:
Honors class. Guest speaker giving lecture on how badly we, as a society and a government, treat poor people. Basically, we should help everyone be middle class.

I must look really inviting because he asked my opinion.

Answer (again cynical girl in the back): There has to be poor people. You have to have a lower class to do the jobs that no one else wants to do. Society needs people to clean the floors and pick the berries. They do them because they have to, out of economic necessity. Not everyone can be middle-class with a house and a car and a dog. Sorry.

Mr. Guest Speaker asks me how one so young can be so cynical.

I'm not cynical. I'm simply a realist.

God's smacking me again [Feb. 13th, 2006|11:13 am]
[Current Mood |thoughtfulintrospective]

Sometimes, God just smacks me. WHAP! Pay attention! I don't like it but it usually makes me a better person.

1. Brion and I had our monthly 'talk'. We both feel that we don't really share with each other. That I go my way, he goes his, and we meet at home to sleep. Not a great formula for a relationship. I often don't realize what I'm doing and he doesn't tell me. We're both very reactive to each other but we usually jump to the wrong conclusion. It's very very very hard to share 'myself' with him. I've just never done it. Ever. When I was little, I didn't have a 'best friend', that person that I just shared everything with. I just didn't. I learned to keep things to myself and as a result, I have a hard time trusting someone with anything sensitive to me. It's just hard. I know I can do it. I can DO anything. Getting started is hard. But I also know that Brion won't use anything against me or intentionally hurt me. Pff. This 'relationship' stuff is hard.

2. A really good friend of mine has cancer again. She probably has 6 months to live (I think). This is one of the strongest women I know and it's very hard to see her weaken so much. I don't want to think about it but I don't have a choice. Life is so so so short. I have to learn to appreciate every day. Bubba's never going to be a perfect performance horse and Brion is never going to be like my Daddy. But I have to appreciate them as they are.

God is smacking me again.

TAG!! [Jan. 21st, 2006|05:55 pm]
I've been tagged.

list 5 weird habits of your own and then tag 5 other people

1. I'm obsessed with washing my face. This probably comes from Home Depot, the Bastion of Dirt. My face always feel dirty so I'll think about washing it in the truck on the way home. Then when I get home I forget.

4. I constantly open bottles of water, drink half, then sit it down somewhere and forget it. Ten minutes later, I'll go get a new one. I end up with 900 half-empty bottles of water lying around.

5. The phonebook in my phone has 199 numbers in it. I may never ever call some of them, but I've got em!

ok ok [Jan. 5th, 2006|06:35 pm]
[Current Mood |peacefulintrospective]

Jerrika has inspired me to actually break down and update.

This part year has been so... odd, different, and weird. I look back on it and really wonder about what I learned from it all.

Finally 'hooking up' with Brion has really been a blessing in disguise. We've had our moments but learning from and dealing with him has really taught me a lot about myself and the way I react to other people. He doesn't let me be spoiled and selfish and thoughtless. I don't like that at the time but it does make me a much better person to be around. It's an ongoing process. I also see the change in him, from being with me. He's learned when to back off and when to be affectionate and nice to me. That is also an ongoing process. It's not easy but it's worth it.

Bubba and I finally started really clicking this year, starting with state finals. We still have our off runs (quite a few actually) but we'll get it together eventually. He's also made a better rider and trainer out of me. Instead of pulling, I've had to learn how to finesse and ask. You don't demand with Bubba.

What is it with the men in my life teaching me things?

Home Depot still is the devil incarnate. How can such an odd, backward, completely messed up company employ so many great people (myself included of course)? They promote the most ill-qualified people. They don't offer any incentive to actually do your job. And then they wonder why they have such high turnover and absenteeism. DUH! Any fool can see. Just let me tell you one thing. Get your eye off that bottom line, treat your employees well who will in turn treat your customers well, who will in turn come back and spend more money. It's not a hard concept. In talking to some of the HD veterans, this bottom line mentality started with the new CEO. We'll see what happens.

I'm constantly job hunting anymore. Never seriously but if I do find something better than I will be gone. Peace!

Fall semester wasn't as great as I thought. Some of my work received disapointing grades. I ended up with B's but some of those papers deserved A's.

I think I finally found my history soulmate in the form of Dr. Jones. She's not the lecturer Dr. A is but her particular emphasis really hits home. She's a Southern historian, a rural historian, and an oral historian. She's going to interview my Pa for a study. It'll be great. I love her subject and her supplemental material really helps a lot.

Luckee turned 15 this year! How weird is that!!!! She got her learners a few days ago and is now driving Ms. Sara everywhere. Brenda is worried sick that once she gets her full-blown license, she'll lose interest in the horses. It may happen. We'll have to see.

Mom and Dad are still thinking about moving to Texas. I caught Dad researching electric companies in Texas the other day. Another thing we'll have to wait and see on.

It has been such a blast having Courtney home this past semester. I miss her so much when she's gone. We really are soulmates. I can see where she's changed in DC but it's nothing I can't live with. She is such a vibrant, funny, full-of-life person. Compared to Courtney, some people are just cardboard.

A list... you knew it was coming

Things to look forward to in 2006
1. World!
2. State!
3. Southern States Showdown!
4. New classes and finally, seeing the light at the end of the tunnel
5. Learning and growing with Brion
6. Maybe, just maybe making good runs on Bubba
7. New job? More money?
8. Awards banquet!
